The Best of Friends
The relationship between Laiza and the little girl was special too. They talked a lot, and the little girl laughed every time.
Every day after school, the little girl ran to her house, and went with Laiza to the garden. They could be there for hours talking, playing, and laughing.
Laiza liked the flowers, “Eating flowers is healthy for me. Look at my hair! It’s so shiny!”
Sometimes, in the garden, the little girl told Laiza her secrets, why she was sad and angry with her parents, or why she didn’t have human friends. Then, Laiza put her head close to the little girl, and Laiza said: “I know you are sad, I know you want your mother to have time for you and your father to be loving and attentive to you, but they are adults, you know?”
The little girl responded, “I don’t know, I guess people are weird when they grow up”.
And Laiza replied, “But they forgot one thing, which is the reason they work so hard. It is for you! Maybe they can’t see it, but you need to understand that the most important thing in your life is yourself”.
When the little girl felt shy, Laiza told her: “Look at me, do you think I am interested in what people think of me? Of course not, because, I know I am perfect for me, and I am special for the people who love me!”
The little girl saw Laiza, and she tried to discover why this “dog” knew everything about life. Laiza loved her and loved everything in the world. Laiza showed the little girl a new world, the world of love.
The little girl and Laiza planned situations for her parents to spend more time at home, and her parents started to understand that the little girl needed them. So, they decided that after 8 pm they would both be done with work, and they would have time for the little girl… and for Laiza.
In school, the little girl got over her fear and started to talk with girls and boys. Then, one day, the little girl returned home with friends, and they ate lunch in her home. Laiza was happy for the little girl, but she kept her distance from new people. She watched to make sure the little girl was fine.
When summer came, the little girl spent time with her friend, and sometimes they had sleepovers. But when the little girl came back home, Laiza was angry with her. She said, “I am happy for you, but when you don’t sleep at home, Mom feels very worried about you, and she can’t sleep. Neither can I. I don’t like when you go with your friends for sleepovers, because I can’t take care of you.”
The little girl said to Laiza, “One day you saved me, and after that, you taught me how to take care of myself. Don’t worry, you taught me very well.”
